Want to Make Work from Home Permanent?

Want to Make Work from Home Permanent?

Dear Jenny,

My company just announced that it’s going to call employees back to the office soon. Working from home this past year has really opened my eyes to alternatives to the 9-5 office job life. What do I do if I’m thinking of leaving my job now that the pandemic is ending?

Thanks,

Work From Home Wendy

Dear Work From Home Wendy,

I know you’re probably feeling really unsure about your future right now because of the pandemic. So, it’s been a while since you’ve had to go into the office. That was before the pandemic, and things were different then. Maybe it wasn’t perfect, but at least there was some semblance of normalcy.

Now that things have settled down and people are coming back from their little vacation time off (or staying home sick), it’s time to think about what comes next in your career. It sounds like a lot of people are feeling that way, too, because they’re quitting their jobs to go into business for themselves or just take some time off to reevaluate what they want out of life.

But don’t worry! There are some things you can do to make sure this transition goes smoothly and without any regrets in the end. So here are some tips for quitting your job post-pandemic!

Try going back to the office for a few weeks to see how things have changed

It may be a good idea to head back in for two or three days and see what the company’s doing. You’ll get an idea of how things are going, but you won’t have all that time on your hands just yet.

This also stops you from being impulsive; in fact, you might just notice that your company has also changed its policies post-pandemic and is more accommodating to employees who want to work from home, for instance.

Talk to your co-workers

Post COVID-19, it’s not a bad idea to chat with your co-workers about what they think of the company and how things might change in the future. It’s highly likely they’re as uncertain as you and are having the same doubts.

It’s a good idea to hear them out and see what their plans are. Chances are they’re on the same page as you, and you might be in a position to talk to your employer about changing some of their policies.

Meet with your boss and be honest

It may seem like you’re being disloyal by jumping ship, but many companies understand that things have changed. Talking to your superiors is a good idea. Be honest about how you feel — they might be thinking the same thoughts and have some ideas for you too. In fact, you’d be surprised to find out how understanding your boss is – they might be thinking the same as you!

Like any big decision, it’s all about what you feel is right for YOU. It doesn’t matter how many people are or aren’t feeling the same way as you – this is your life and your decision to make!

Sincerely,
Jenny
